High School and What I'm Doing this Year. :D

My name is Miriam and I am starting my freshman year in high school. Now I am going into this year a little intimidated. There are so many things that happen in high school that didn't happen in the middle school I came from like block schedules, two hour classes, finals, a 5 km run to worry about, harder classes, sharing classes with upperclassmen, and so on, marching band, and so on. This was all thrown onto us within the first week of school, and it hit me that high school is going to be a lot harder than I thought. Something in my mind sincerely thought that it would be the same as high school, but so far, there is almost nothing I can compare. I think that blogging about my experience as a high-schooler and how I'm coping with all these new experiences.

So I started school two days ago on a Thursday, which is really strange, but apparently the school district thought it was a great idea. I really can't complain because having only two school days in a week is very nice.

Well, I guess it was nice for my friends who aren't in band, because on Monday though Wednesday, if you were in band, you were encouraged to go to this "band camp" thing at the high school. If you were a percussionist, you had to stay there for five hours all three days (as supposed to winds who only had to be there 3 1/2 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday. This gave me a little head start int the music, but it also sort of scared me. Marching band is going to be very difficult, and it is going to take up a lot of time. I am starting to get a little more comfortable around the Junior and Senior boys who make up 90% of the drum line. Unfortunately, there are no percussionists from the middle school I came from in this drum line. There were 70 students in my middle school, band and only ten of them went on to this high school band. Yeah, it's pretty bad, but I can't blame it all on the middle school teacher (though he was really bad) because high school offers a lot of classes that may be more fitted for the students. I stuck with band because I love music, and it fulfills an art credit. If I really hate it this year, I will switch to art, but I want to give it a shot to say that I tried. I am just so happy that I have friends in band, because I would die if I didn't. Because of them I have people to talk about how difficult band is.

Obviously band is not my only class. That would just be silly, but I would get really good at playing mallets. The other classes I have this semester are Biology, Life Fitness, Advanced Algebra 1, ICT Foundations, Advanced Honors English 1, and Spanish 1.

   Yeah that's it for now!
